I recently read a book about the aptness of London Architects and would love to share what I learned from it with you in this article.

There is guarantee that the housebuilding industry has the capacity to deliver the level of affordable housing that is needed or that development would take place in the right locations, served by the necessary infrastructure. A green belt is a policy and land-use zone designation used in land-use planning to retain areas of largely undeveloped, wild, or agricultural land surrounding or neighboring urban areas. Similar concepts are greenways or green wedges, which have a linear character and may run through an urban area instead of around it. By far the most common difficulty with a green belt build project is that the budget runs over – usually because it hasn’t been worked out properly from the start. As well as the costs for the land and materials, there is also the architect and builders’ fees to consider, as well as furnishing the property itself. Green belt architects provide a range of consultations together with drawings suitable for planning and building regulation applications. They even provide free technical telephone support if you or your builder experience any problems during construction. Getting planning permission to build on the Green Belt may be tricky - but it’s certainly not impossible. Last year alone, planning applications to build an additional 35,000 homes on UK Green Belts were submitted and in the past nine years, more than 24,000 homes were constructed on UK Green Belts. Paragraph 89 of the NPPF sets out that the extension or alteration of a building within the Green Belt is not inappropriate provided it does not result in ‘disproportionate additions’ over and above the size of the original building.

The green wedge as an urban policy in UK, however, cannot compete the green belt which is the main stream. It is only urban policy on the local level in UK, for example Norwich and Lincoln utilize green wedge as restraint policies to protect historic settings. The absence of strategic planning means that substantial schemes are often considered in independently of these considerations. If the Local Plan process was more effective, ample suitable land would be allocated through the planning system and the appeals process used infrequently. In highlighting the effectiveness of the Green Belt in preventing unrestricted sprawl, others have compared the situation in the UK, to that in America with its lack of green belt. Writing in the Times in 2010, the historian and former Labour MP, Tristan Hunt wrote, “In America, they chose a different path – and the relentless anywhere-nowhere sprawl of an Atlanta, Phoenix, or Los Angeles is awful to behold, as “boomburbs”, “techno-burbs” and retail parks eat ever deeper into the rural hinterland. Green belt architects undertake design work from a strategic level to detailed architecture with creativity, enthusiasm and knowledge. Their buildings are rooted in their context, have a contemporary design, high performance and are tailored to the needs of users. Formulating opinions on matters such as Architect London can be a time consuming process.

The Battle For The Green Belt

A local council will usually allow existing buildings in the green belt to be re-used for other purposes as long as the use does not have a significantly greater effect than the present use on the openness of the Green Belt, and does not conflict with the purposes of including land within it. Any proposed green belt development is going to be thoroughly scrutinised, so you need all the expertise you can. If you're looking for extend, develop or rebuild a property in the Green Belt, you need the services of a green belt architect. The sole purpose of the Green Belt is to prevent urban sprawl. The land itself often has no inherent natural beauty, ecological value or agricultural purpose, as opposed to a national park or AONB land. In fact, the majority of Green Belt land is low-quality scrubland and only gets a special designation as part of the attempt to contain the surrounding city or town. Green belt architectural businesses enable the delivery of energy efficient buildings with low embodied carbon. They also offer a single point of expertise to help their clients meet their objectives. As a planning concept, Green Belts have been around almost as long as the modern Town and Country Planning System. They were first suggested in the 1930s, but it was the new Town and Country Planning Act in 1947 that gave local authorities powers to designate them. Can Green Belt Planning Loopholes solve the problems that are inherent in this situation?

In an indication of the effectiveness of Green Belt restrictions, figures from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government revealed that in 2017/18 just 8.9 km2 of previously undeveloped Green Belt land was developed, with just 2.9 km2 being turned into residential use. The UK is still not meeting predicted hosuing demand, but there has certainly been a boom in employment of architects, planners and landscape architects catering for increased supply of housing. Architects that design for the green belt have a client-led focus, that does away with pre-prescribed ideas about how a project should be designed. The resulting homes always manage to look perfectly at home in their (often rural) landscapes. The Green Belt in London comprises a vast area. It incorporates London’s suburban fringe and extends into the city region covering parts of eight counties. This large area of protected land was created originally to restrict urban growth from London and to safeguard the countryside from development. A beautiful home should also be functional. While architects specialising in the green belt take care to maximise light and space, they also pay attention to your need for ease of access, storage and flexibility. Clever design involving New Forest National Park Planning is like negotiating a maze.

Architectural Design Decisions

House building is typically at very low density in the Green Belt despite national planning policy having encouraged and brought about higher residential densities across England as a whole since the 1980s. While development in the cities has taken place typically at 27 dwellings per hectare, development in the Green Belt has been at less than 9 dwellings per hectare. Some individual Green Belts have a high proportion of broadleaved and mixed woodland. Whilst 93% of Green belt remains undeveloped, a quarter if this land is neither woodland or registered as agricultural land and is perhaps more aptly described as `extended residential’, often horse paddocks, gardens and small holdings. The overall character of Green Belt land is not influenced by the planning designation. Where there are particular land cover types these are related to the geography of the area. Sustainable architecture is architecture that seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings through improved efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, development space and the ecosystem at large. Sustainable architecture uses a conscious approach to energy and ecological conservation in the design of the built environment. There’s no sugar-coating the fact that London is in the middle of possibly its greatest housing crisis. The average price of a home in the capital in 2020 is over £600,000 – and over £1.5m in Kensington & Chelsea – and social housing waiting-list figures show that there are almost 350,000 houses in demand. At a time when the planning system is ever changing and becoming increasingly complex, green belt architects offer a highly professional service to guide their clients through the planning system, offering a clear and time measured route to development. A well-thought-out strategy appertaining to Net Zero Architect can offer leaps and bounds in improvements.

Sustainable architecture designs and constructs buildings in order to limit their environmental impact, with the objectives of achieving energy efficiency, positive impacts on health, comfort and improved liveability for inhabitants; all of this can be achieved through the implementation of appropriate technologies within the building. Although sustainable architecture is to be welcomed, it has sometimes come in for the criticism of ‘greenwashing’. In these cases, designers have overexaggerated environmental benefits. We should interrogate all “green” claims, and architects and contractors need to prepare to provide supporting data. Not all Green Belt was created equal. Rather than the picture postcard fields you might imagine, much of the Green Belt is far from that. It includes, for example, large areas that already have development on them. Where land is classed as Previously Developed Land, sites can often be redeveloped to provide new homes. A talented team of Architects, Landscape Architects and Chartered Town Planners working for green belt architects specialise in the creation and regeneration of sustainable residential communities in urban, suburban, and rural settings and this ensures a flexible and comprehensive approach can be given to each individual site. Local residents in affluent parts of a green belt, as in parts of the city, can be assured of preserving any localized bourgeois status quo present and so assuming the green belt is not from the outset an area of more social housing proportionately than the city, it naturally tends toward greater economic wealth. Professional assistance in relation to Green Belt Land can make or break a project.

Understanding The Mindset

Green belt architects have the most influential architects, interior and exterior designers. Their team of architectural designers provide vital information about the products that are useful for an outcome. They are also aware of the type of competition evolving in the 21st century and what is necessary for a building to stand equal or above market values. There is no clearer example of the relationship between urbanism and nature than along the green belt, which was created to protect against London sprawl. However, some people believe it has become a stranglehold on development. Proposals for the re-use of property in the green belt should have no adverse impact on biodiversity or features which make a significant contribution to the cultural and historic landscape value of the area.
