Laser cutting auxiliary gas sounds simple enough: it helps the cut by an exothermic reaction (with oxygen) and evacuates the molten material. It is so straightforward that, according to sources, many new operators do not think to adjust it when they experience a bad cut. They may simply slow down the feed rate, which solves the problem, but this does increase the cycle time and may negate the reason your workshop invested in a laser in the first place: to cut a large number of parts particularly quickly. The problem may be related to the auxiliary gas pressure, which can be easily changed by the operator at the controller; or it may be related to the flow rate, which depends on the nozzle orifice diameter. Or it may be that the focus needs to be adjusted. Or the beam may not be in the center of the nozzle. Or it may be a combination of all factors.
